ITF supports unionists against multicorporate mine company

20 unionists from around the world demonstrated against the Brazilian multicorporate mine company Vale this weekend in Brunsbüttel / Germany. They accuse the global corporation of using cheap contract workers and reducing company pensions as well as allowances.

The ITF was asked to help because cargo was being unloaded from the ore carrier MV Federal Nakagawa that weekend in Brunsbüttel. With the assistance of ITF inspector Ulf Christiansen, 6 delegates succeeded in meeting with the ship’s captain and presenting him a protest note outlining the details of the conflict. The captain as well as representatives of the shipping company promised to forward the letter to those responsible in the multicorporate mining company.
